"LIGHT BEARER" original/ outsider art,ACEO jack larson 3.5"x2.5"

I originally painted this one as an arsonist fleeing a burning building. Then I blacked out the flame until I was left with the torch. The light in "light bearer" refers to enlightenment,  knowledge, discovery  and innovation. The arsonist is still in the picture because, to the extent that progress is destructive to the outmoded, the false, or the worthless, light bearers often are arsonists--ontological arsonists, burning away debris to clear new paths. Instead of fleeing a burning building, he is now leading  the way out of the "darkness" of ignorance and stagnation..

This one is part of the same series as "NARCISSIST"...they are the same basic character. Narcissists are destructive, incapable of empathy, and are essentially self-destructive. The NIHILIST here is perhaps a clearer representation of the inner state of a narcissist which is, despite what the term implies, is not one of self-adoration but is in fact a facsimile of self-love which covers up a deep seated self-loathing and sense of shame.

ARTIST UPDATE 8/27/2015

I delivered "Prayers to Old Man Gloom" to the gallery in Santa Fe where it will be exhibited along with artwork from many other artists. The opening night is Friday and I am tentatively planning to attend. I will certainly be there Saturday as well as the following week for the burning of Old Man Gloom.

I have ordered prints of the painting and these will be shipped next week to the contributors to the project and I may have a couple left over to auction on Ebay.

Speaking of Ebay: this Sunday will be the biggest auction I have ever done. I have been extremely focused lately and have completed about 300 new art cards, all original, few redundancies, and lots of new ideas. (Link to auction:AUCTION )
